We, The Alliance of Media Advocates (TAMA), an emerging national association of media practitioners who are advocating for reproductive health and human development, strongly condemn the brutal murder of hardworking journalists in Maguindanao on November 23, 2009.
We believe that the massacre of more than a dozen journalists, the worst so far in Philippine history, was an attack against freedom of expression and human rights in a democratic society.
The journalists who were brutally murdered were performing their jobs and they had nothing to do with the rivalry of powerful political clans in the province.
We call on all citizens and fellow journalists in the country to join hands in condemning this senseless and barbaric act.
We strongly demand from the national government a rapid response to bring the perpetrators to justice for the preservation of peace, freedom and democracy.
We urge the law enforcers to quickly act and pin down those who were responsible for this inhuman behavior.
Stop media killings! Stop media repression!
